TGA provisionally approves Pfizer’s COVID-19 vaccine in children aged 6 months to less than 5 years

On 29 September 2022, the Therapeutic Goods Administration (TGA) provisionally approved a paediatric dose of Pfizer’s COVID-19 vaccine, COMIRNATY (tozinameran), for children aged 6 months to less than 5 years. As seen with older age groups, it is expected that vaccines for younger children will provide protection from the most severe COVID-19 outcomes.

The Government’s decision on the use of this vaccine for this age group will be informed by advice from the Australian Technical Advisory Group on Immunisation (ATAGI).

A journey to listen and understand deeply

Every 3 years, Brisbane South PHN conducts a Health Needs Assessment (HNA) to understand what the region needs in support of their diverse health and wellbeing needs, strengths and potential.

Recently, First Nations organisations, Elders and community members asked us to more deeply, understand First Nations communities’ health and service needs and to strengthen our role building capacity in mainstream providers to provide culturally safe and appropriate health care.

It is a privilege we don’t take lightly. Whilst as a sector, we have much work to do, we are delighted to invite you to attend 1 of our upcoming First Nations Primary Care Roadshows in October.

Intended for professionals working in primary health (general practice, allied health and pharmacy), aged and disability care, the roadshows will focus on social and emotional wellbeing, and chronic disease management in mainstream primary care.

We are hosting 3 separate events in Beaudesert, Eight Mile Plains and Capalaba, and hope to see you there:

  • Thursday 13 October, Beaudesert, 7:30 am – 1:00 pm
  • Thursday 20 October, Eight Mile Plains, 1:00 pm – 7:00 pm
  • Tuesday 25 October, Capalaba, 7:30 am – 1:00 pm
